As Latinx Heritage Month begins today, we celebrate the diverse histories, cultures, and contributions of our Latinx community members. We want to also take this moment to reflect on why celebrations like this are critical: the vital connection between culture and educational equity.
Celebrating culture in educational spaces fosters a sense of belonging and empowers students and families. When students see themselves reflected in curriculum, when they learn about the achievements of those who share their heritage, when learning is relevant to their lives, and when they feel a connection to their roots, student engagement and success soar.
At LAEP, we are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to high-quality education that recognizes, respects, and integrates their cultural identities. Partnership with students, families, educators, and the broader community plays a pivotal role in this journey, as we collectively strive to break down barriers and open doors of opportunity for every child. This commitment is not only during Latinx Heritage Month, but year-round.
Thank you for being a part of the LAEP family. Together, we can transform education for the Latinx community, with the Latinx community, from diapers to diplomas.
